The leader of a radical ethnic Albanian movement in Kosovo has been arrested this morning. Albin Kurti's Self-Determination issued a statement today in Pristina saying that their leader was arrested by the Kosovo Police Service, KPS, in his apartment. Kurti in police custody again The request for this came from an international judge in the province, after Kurti failed to appear in the courtroom today, the statement added. His explanation for failure to show up in court was that he "does not recognize the UMNIK judiciary." In the meantime, the KPS have confirmed that the arrest did take place. Kurti and his movement want the Kosovo status crisis to be resolved along the principles of self-determination. They organized several protests to this effect, including the one on Feb. 10, 2007, when two people died, while 80 were injured, as Kurti's followers clashed with UNMIK police. He was subsequently arrested as the protest organizer, but was released to house arrest after several months. The court proceedings against Kurti continue.
