Serbia’s Deputy Prime Minister Bozidar Djelic hopes that another round of negotiations with Pristina will be held before December 9. The European Council will decide whether to grant Serbia the EU candidate status on December 9. Deputy PM: Another round by Dec. 9 “Belgrade’s diplomatic offensive, in order to secure the best possible position of Serbia before the decision on the candidate status in Brussels on December 9, is in its key stage. Poland, that is presiding over the EU, will support the next step on our European pathway with expectation that progress in the dialogue with Pristina will be made,” he stressed. According to him, certain EU member states will not hesitate to block Serbia’s candidacy bid if there is no visible progress. Therefore, the outcome of the dialogue and the implementation of the agreements that have been reached so far are very important. When asked whether there would be another condition for Serbia, namely financial stability, the deputy PM said that there were no new conditions. “Serbia has, together with other countries of the region, been proposing for a long time to strengthen the economic dialogue with Europe. The goal on one hand is that the EU is sure that accession of new members is not going to jeopardize it, that ‘a new Greece’ will not happen and that it should in return help the candidate states,” Djelic explained.
