BELGRADE President Tomislav Nikolic addressed a news conference on Monday to announce that First Deputy PM Aleksandar Vucic would take part in the Kosovo talks. A new round of the EU-mediated dialogue is taking place on Tuesday in Brussels. Vucic to join negotiating team in Brussels Nikolic also said that Vucic would travel to Brussels "in order to preserve the unity", and that "nothing will be final tomorrow." He explained that the decision to send Vucic to the talks was reached at the high-level meeting of government officials called at his initiative, and added that this should prove the top government officials are united in their intention to reach an optimum solution in the talks with Pristina. Nikolic added that this is not an easy task because the minimum of requests that satisfies both sides is yet to be defined. “As for our part, the Belgrade team will not go below the request for the citizens within the association of Serb municipalities in Kosovo and Metohija to be granted the power to decide on the judiciary and the police, without the presence of the army,” Nikolic said. He noted that Serbia "does not want to impose ultimatums that would imply the fulfilment of the Constitution and relevant laws," but he added that the country will not accept ultimatums either. “We are not refusing anything in advance, and we are not asking them to accept all points that are ideal for Serbia. Nobody can make us angry and induce us to walk out on the talks because Serbia has always been rational,” the president said. We are not asking for anything ideal, we are not rejecting anything in advance, but what Pristina wants will never be possible, the president stressed. "A meeting (of top state officials) where we are determining the final instructions is still ongoing. I have suggested that Vucic should join the delegation, and he will, because that is a chance to demonstrate the unity of the state leadership," Nikolic further said. According to the Serbian president, the statements coming from officials in Pristina, "who are saying they will make no concessions", do not seem encouraging.
