Đelić: Serbia in EU in 2014

At the same time, a new EU electoral and budgetary cycle will start in 2014, of which Serbia could be a part, according to him.

Đelić also said the Stabilization and Associaton Agreement (SAA) could be signed with the union by year’s end, provided full cooperation with the Hague Tribunal were to be established by that time.

“We could get a green light even without Mladić in The Hague, even though the best proof of cooperation remains extradition,” he said.

Speaking about Serbia’s ambitious plan of European integration, Đelić said the goal was to apply for membership in the first half of 2008, and become a candidate by the end of next year.

He said that although the Serbian parliament adopted over 50 laws and decisions in the first few months since it convened, this pace still needed to be accelerated.

“The heart of European integrations beats in the parliament, and unless something changes, we will suffer a heart attack, without fulfilling our European agenda,” Đelić said.
