Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) leader Cedomir Jovanovic said Saturday that Serbia needed changes now that pre-election year had started. He also called on all social factors, including political opponents, to work on this goal with LDP. LDP leader: Serbia needs changes He told the LDP Main Board that LDP needed to initiate changes and thus do what Serbian President Boris Tadic and his Democratic Party (DS) were unable to do. “The LDP must propose changes at the time when Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) leader Tomislav Nikolic, together with Strength of Serbia Movement headed by businessman Bogoljub Karic, who fled the country under fraud charges, and with the successor party to the former Yugoslav Left, are marching towards election victory,” Jovanovic said. He urged political opponents, trade unions, NGOs, church and all who once participated in the first democratic government after the October 2000 changes led by Zoran Djindjic to join the LDP efforts. “Stories about reconstruction of the Serbian government, elections, election laws, two-party system have killed Serbian society because they disregard the daily needs of the citizens,” he said. “As regards Kosovo, Serbia should be linked with it economically, if it cannot have political ties, and should feel concerned over the fact that Kosovo society is unstable today,” the LDP leader pointed out. “The privatization process should be completed, the energy agreement with Russia should be reconsidered, and the state must fight corruption by withdrawing from public companies,” Jovanovic concluded.
