“We will do this soon since we have the start of negotiations ahead of us. We will certainly not wait until the last moment,” Mladenović said.He said he believed that the state team will come up with “the best possible proposal for autonomy for the Albanian ethnic minority in Kosovo”, Beta reported.
Mladenović declined to comment on Wolfgang Ischinger’s appointment as the EU envoy in the upcoming talks on Kosovo’s future status, saying only that Ischinger was “a seasoned diplomat well-acquainted with the Balkans issues”, which, according to Mladenović, “can be both good and bad”.
Priština: Last attempt
Also Monday, Reuters reported that the other side in the forthcoming talks, Kosovo Albanian political leadership, says negotiations are “the last attempt in resolving province's future”.Officials in Priština said they would participate in new negotiations, but warned that, beyond that, they will accept no further delays in settling the province's final status. And they pledged not to retreat from their demand for independence.
President Fatmir Sejdiu told the province's assembly that the new talks would be the last attempt to win support for independence.
"We consider that this will be the last delay and we will not accept any other deadlines," Sejdiu told the lawmakers.
"We stress that Kosovo's independence is not negotiable," he said.
"In order to move ahead ... we need to sit down once again, and for the last time," Hashim Thaci, the former KLA turned politician, said in a rare address to the province's assembly.
"But Kosovo's independence is not negotiable."
