Ex-members of the ethnic Albanian Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) announced they will hold protests across Kosovo today against the arrest of nine KLA members. EULEX has also been criticized by Kosovo officials who claim that EULEX’s mission is not to persecute and arrest former KLA members. Ex-KLAs in Kosovo protests The protesters will today request that the ex-KLA members, suspected of killing civilians and prisoners of war in the village of Klecka during the conflict in Kosovo, be released. The protests will be held in Podujevo, Decani, Pec, Djakovica, Prizren, Urosevac, Gnjilane, Pristina, southern Kosovska Mitrovica and other towns in Kosovo. The organizers have called on the citizens to join them. Security Forces Minister and former KLA Commander Agim Ceku has criticized EULEX over the arrests, pointing out that the operation has created a gap in Kosovo. He believes that EULEX should probe corruption, organized crime and smuggling instead of investigating war crimes. EULEX police arrested nine former KLA members last week for war crimes during the conflict in Kosovo. Prizren police Regional Commander Nexhmi Krasniqi and former Transport Minister Fatmir Limaj, who is currently protected by the parliamentary immunity, are among the arrested suspects. Kosovo assembly Speaker and former KLA Commander Jakup Krasniqi has stated that EULEX prosecutors should withdraw the warrant for Limaj’s arrest, claiming that the arrest warrant is “contrary to Kosovo Constitution and laws”.

The protesters will today request that the ex-KLA members, suspected of killing civilians and prisoners of war in the village of Klečka during the conflict in Kosovo, be released.

The protests will be held in Podujevo, Dečani, Peć, Đakovica, Prizren, Uroševac, Gnjilane, Priština, southern Kosovska Mitrovica and other towns in Kosovo.

The organizers have called on the citizens to join them.
