BELGRADE Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic has decorated the Historical Museum with the Sretenje Medal for extraordinary achievements. Nikolic signed the order on April 2, decorating the museum for extraordinary achievements in culture. Historical Museum receives state decoration The museum was opened on February 20, 1963, to collect, catalogue store, study and display items related to the history of the Serbian people and Serbia. The museum collection is divided into several groups: the Middle Ages, foreign rule period, 1804-1918, 1941-1945 and finally the post-war development. The core of the collection during the museum's early years was made up of items related to the people and events of the First and Second Serbian Uprisings.
