Business environment "improves considerably"

This year, significant improvements were observed in obtaining building permits and operating licenses, and executive procedure.

The respondents believe para-fiscal charges and fees have the most negative impact on doing business, adding taxes and contributions on salaries, value added tax, tax administration, the gray economy and administrative procedures.

The presentation of the poll, carried out by USAID in cooperation with IPSOS Strategic Marketing and with the support of the PKS, was attended by Serbia's Deputy PM Zorana Mihajlovic, PKS President Marko Cadez and U.S. Ambassador Michael Kirby.

Mihajlovic said that the results "show that reforms carried out by the government have helped improve the business environment in the country."

Mihajlovic particularly pointed out that businesspeople were satisfied with speeding up the issuance of building permits, voicing confidence that their satisfaction "will continue to grow as 2016 should see the introduction of electronic building permits."

Kirby stressed that it was important to know what businesspeople thought so new reforms could be undertaken where needed.

Kirby "lauded the reforms carried out by the Serbian government, pointing in particular to the issuance of building permits, one of the vital improvements in the previous few years," said Tanjug.
