Following the ruling, Djokovic released a statement admitting he was "extremely disappointed" with the verdict.
"I would like to make a brief statement to address the outcomes of today's Court hearing. I will now be taking some time to rest amd recuperate, before making any further comments beyond this", he began.
"I am extremely disappointed with the Court ruling to dismiss my application for judicial review of the Minister's decision to cancel my visa, which means I cannot stay in Australia and participate in the Australian Open. I respect the Court's ruling and I will cooperate with the relevant authorities in relation to my departure from the country. I am uncomfortable that the focus of the past weeks has been on me and I hope that we can all now focus on the game and tournament I love", he continued.
In the end, he wanted to thank everyone who supported him in this fight in the past period.
"I would like to wish the players, tournament officials, staff, volunteers and fans all the best for the tournament. Finally, I would like to thank my family, friends, team, supporters, fans and my fellow Serbians for your continued support. You have all been a great source of strength to me", world no. 1 concluded.
I really don't think Australia's entry requirements stipulate that you can't travel into Australia if you have a negative test, 7 days after testing positive. In fact, I just read it and nowhere does it say that. It does say that you need a negative PCR test within 3 days of the flight’s scheduled departure time. If you think Nadal didn't have one, then prove it.
As for Djokovic and vaccines, sure it's his choice, however, these are not quite normal times, his decisions have consequences. On the big scheme of things, it's not a big deal, he won't get to play in the AO, no one's life depends on that. Personally, I think there been a massive overreaction to it all (I mean, his father compared him to Spartacus and Jesus) but hey, people can do what they want
(Nikolle, 17 January 2022 23:36)
Nikolle, it didnt start off as a PR stunt but it ended up being that. The relevant Aussie authorities issued the exemption visa- FACT.
Novak given green light to travel. Day before Novak landed the PM was asked by TV reporter about Novaks exemption. He replied that all was fine because he was granted exemption by Victoria State and Tennis Aust. The PM concluded "thats how it works".
The media then jumped all over it and whipped up the public, and by the time Novak landed the PM changed his tune. Of course we know that elections are in May and with that in mind and public opinion against Novak the PM then started saying..."rules are rules" to dance to media tune.
As for Nadal, yes he entered 3 or 4 days too early. It dont matter if you tested negative after 7 or 10 days, you cant enter Aust for 14 days from the date of testing positive, even if you are all jabbed up. But the press ignore this because we already have Novak as the villain.
I agree that it all could have been avoided. But let me ask you....do you honestly think Novak would have travelled without a proper exemption visa..? Really?
As for his choice not to vaccinate, well its his choice and nobody else's. You cant force anyone to be jabbed.

@OSMANIS...you believe what you want, if you want to think that this was no more than a PR stunt, fine, but if so, it's not a very good PR stunt.
As for Nadal, not that I have looked into Australia's entry rules, but, from what I understand, isolation is a requirement when you test positive, now there is a gap between Dec 20 and Dec 31st, if you know that Nadal didn't subsequently test negative, then I suggest you expose him and then he can be kicked out. I suspect that he did another test though, and was all clear.
The past 10 days could have been avoided if Mr Djokovic took the vaccine. I still don't understand what his logic to it is. How can a man who obviously isn't stupid, subscribe to such odd ideas on inoculation? I do not get it. In all honesty, he didn't do himself any favours. Personally, I think the immigration authorities should not have granted a visa to begin with and ought to have warned him that any appeal by him would most likely be refused, so tat this very public embarrassment could have been avoided.
(Nikolle, 17 January 2022 14:03)
Nikolle..let me explain that this was just a PR stunt by Aussie politicians.
A recent Daily Mail Australia article exposed the "rules are rules" BS.
Between April '20 - May '21 113 private jets landed in Australia, mostly A list celebs. They include Matt Damon, Julia Roberts, Natalie Portman, etc. All of them were allowed entry when the borders were "closed". All were exempt from "the rules".
Nadal tested positive for covid on the 20th Dec. By Aussie rules he should not have been allowed in until the 3rd Jan (14 days minimum), vaccinated or not. But we saw Rafa on the practice courts in Melbourne on the 31st Dec...!?
Novak WAS given exemption visa and given the green light to enter. But when the media got hold of the news the politicians paniced and then played politics (elections in May coming up).
The Aussie public have been treated like dirt BY THEIR OWN GMT. They should be angry at their gmt and not Novak. The sad public wants Novak to suffer like them instead of fighting for their rights.
This whole affair shows stupidity of masses and how they are manipulated.
Australia is a backward regime and I for one will never travel there.
Horrid vindictive people blinded by propaganda.

What a joke is the coarsion ruling Nazi government of the penal colony of Australia is.
It is more a warden goon gaurd run place the citizens are the inmates.
In Croatia 10's of thousands people are protesting the crazines.

To bad their are not more Serbs like Chinese in Australia's.
The corupt system would of bin sining a differentsireans tune.

The Federal Court was asked if the Minister had the power under section 133C(3) of the Migration Act to cancel a visa on health grounds and you know the answer now. Nothing else was considered such as fairness etc.
I don’t think it will end here. Despite Paris declaring he can play at Roland Garos, by the time that comes around Djokovic will be declared persona non grata.
Wimbledon and US Open? Definite not allowed to play.
Why? Serbia does not dance to US tune so Novak will never be allowed to beat Nadal or Federer.
(sj, 16 January 2022 12:11)
In all honesty, I feel a little sorry for Djokovic, not for his misguided views on vaccines, more because he should not have been granted a visa in the first place and then he could have avoided such a very public humiliation. Most probably, he would have contested that too, but then everything would mostly have fallen on him. I also feel that him announcing that he was granted a medical exemption, was always going rub people off the wrong way.
Genuinely, I don't understand what informs his opinions on vaccines, for the life of me, I don't get it. Djokovic speaks quite a few languages, I don't know how fluent, but he seems to hold his own, so he's obviously not stupid, so how on earth can he reach the conclusion that most epidemiologists don't know what they're talking about? Really bizarre
