A psychologist says that the public life that Radovan Karadzic led as Dragan Dabic reflected his desire for attention. The revelations concerning Karadzic’s dual identity as Dragan Dabic and his decision to lead a new, partially public life, raises the issue of his personality. “Karadzic craved attention” Leposava Kron, head of the Institute for Criminology, says that Karadzic only changed his physical appearance, but not his psychological identity. "He changed his social and physical identity, but not his psychological identity. He remained what he was. He’s not become homo duplex or developed a multiple personality disorder. He knows fine well who he is,” says Kron. Under the guise of Dragan Dabic, Karadzic delivered a series of lectures in Novi Sad, Kikinda and Belgrade that were attended by between two to four hundred people. "My assumption is that a man who is such an extreme extrovert, who needed other people and applause, at one point made a decision that public life was something that he needed,” she explains. "It would have been a sort of a psychological suicide for him not to have an audience, because he needed the applause. So I think that he really enjoyed that role,” says the psychologist. Despite Karadzic’s effective disguise that was aided by his knowledge of human nature from his professional background as a psychiatrist, his lawyer has stated that after his arrest, Karadzic asked for his hair to be cut and his beard to be removed, thus restoring his previous public identity. He will appear looking like his old self in court. Karadzic as Dragan Dabic (B92)
