bganon,

I do emotionally react on certain things, if not most of the time. I am very honest person (educated one) with very high self-esteem. I am very capable of working things out, be sure.

As for people protesting on the street I did not bother to analyse their social background and education. Those people have all rights to go out on the street and express their opinion as long as the protest is calm and no one’s life jeopardized. All I am asking you not to generalise. I am sure that there were people with different social background and education, except that uneducated were in majority (perhaps). But who cares as long as they calmly express their opinion. I am all for freedom of the speech and self-expression.
Perhaps there is some truth of your claims when it comes to educational background of supporters of certain political options.

I’ll tell you what kind of people support Mr Kostunica in municipality of Negotin. Believe it or not but 90% of them are highly educated people, most doctors amongst them. But, even though I am more close to Mr Kostunica’s party platform, I never voted his party in local level. Why is that? Simply because the people gathered around DSS’s party in Negotin are nothing but the crooks, corrupt and slimy characters. Such people, though with good education do not deserve my vote. What I disapprove with Kostunica is his inability to distance himself of this kind of characters even if that would have meant huge reform and loss of the electorate.

You may not believe me but DS’s supporters in Negotin are even worst and believe it or not DS party in Negotin is led by the man who has only primary school and very suspicious police record. You guess, he has money, a lot and thus he is free. No, by telling this I am not trying to identify and portray all the DSS or DS supporters in the entire country with those ones from Negotin but I do try to say that we shouldn’t generalise electorate’s background that easily.

Than you said “-My personal belief is that an education usually (but not always) allows people to consider more opinions to be more aware that his own opinion may be wrong and so on..”

-I am not sure that this is the case. Many educated people (again not everyone) use own education as argument and most of the time claim how right they are. For this I blame our educational system and teachers. But, again it could be quite individual regardless of education background.

“Of saying that one side (Tadic supporters) were more uneducated. By your own argument that is complexed thinking”

-No, that is far from any complex thinking, it was just to show how simple is to say with no arguments. I think I explained that afterwards.

Yes the EU debate is simplistic, that is both sides of the debate. Sadly what debate in Serbia is not deformed in some way, due mostly to the way the politicians present their simplistic pictures?

-Yes bganon, it is sad. They all speak about the EU but they do not speak about the corruption, a cancer that metastasized very badly. If you asked me, that would have been the TOP priority to speak about . Our society first must be healed from this cancer and then we can speak about everything else. When I see no corruption traces left then I will be able to say that our society is healthy. That can be done very easily if there was political will to fight this phenomenon.

The other thing that bothers me with certain political parties and made me truly disgust during the election campaign is the fact that almost none of the parties (except DSS and SRS) had any Serbian flag anywhere. There were only flags of their parties and the EU flags. For God’s sake, tell me, is that normal. We are even not in the EU, and even if we were it wouldn’t be normal to forget where do you live and flay that flag. I fear that by entering the EU Serbs are really going to forget who they are and where they belong to. I fear that Jovnovic’s slogan “Serbia without borders” may even become true.

Well, I can write until tomorrow what bothers me but no point, it is already enough long for reading.

And yes, I think they will make a movie about Karadzic (I think there is one already made with Richard Geer in main role). I just hope that we will be the first to make it, perhaps it would be more objective from our point of view.

Just shows the ability of Karadzic to manipulate people around him. Comparisons to personality of Hitler and Hitler's ability to manipulate people en masse is hard to ignore. This is not an arguement about who was worse as obviously Hitler was and also had greater army at his disposal but in terms of ability to manipulate populace and create illusions, he was very succesful.

bmrusila your is an emotional reaction which I come to expect from you but I also have to come to expect that you are a smart person quite capable of working things out.

Tell me this. Of those people on the protest yesterday and today. Did you see them? Now tell me honestly how many do you think are educated? It is quite widely known which social strata supporters of which parties come from and their background education. In the final analysis it doesn't matter if you want to say the opposite is true out of spite, but lets not lose sight of the truth here. If you sincerely don't believe me and are interested look and see for yourself.

But of course it really doesn't matter, uneducated people are no better no worse than than the educated. In many cases they are probably better, more honest.

No, my beef is not with the uneducated so to speak its with those that are unable to think, to consider alternatives to their own opinion. My personal belief is that an education usually (but not always) allows people to consider more opinions to be more aware that his own opinion may be wrong and so on...

Anyway you realise don't you, that by wanting to get me back you fell into the trap of what you accused me of? Of saying that one side (Tadic supporters) were more uneducated. By your own argument that is complexed thinking.

Yes the EU debate is simplistic, that is both sides of the debate. Sadly what debate in Serbia is not deformed in some way, due mostly to the way the politicians present their simplistic pictures?

I don't know about Radovan, it is hard to imagine isn't it what it was like to live under an assumed identity for so long. I think after a while the human tendency might be to believe in this new created character. After all believing in the character is the best way. Sometimes it can be a clever thing to fool oneself knowingly, to make a deliberate decision to draw a line. I think probably he enjoyed living this second life of a relatively ordinary person.

Now Radovan is back and I think it can't be easy for him. I'm not unsympathetic in some way but his past simply caught up with him.

I'll be surprised if they don't make a film about this. I hope a Serbian director gets there first...

Are you trying to portray yourself as educated one? I ask you this because I have noticed that everyone who does not share same view as you must be uneducated (wonder when did you check the acquired degrees of Kostunica’s electorate). Perhaps you never heard of any sort of researches that enables us to distance ourselves from generalising. If you made some hypothesis after some observations then you are free to conduct the research. You look really silly and foolish after such statements. The more you speak about the uneducated mass that supports Kostunica or Nikolic the more I believe that you suffer some kind of complexity. Your judgment is highly simplistic and reasoning looks very narrow. I, on the contrary, believe that only uneducated mass supports Tadic’s democratic option since their political platform is way to transcribed from the EU and focus mostly on entering the EU while the average citizen believes that by entering the EU all the problems are going to be solved. No criticism, no deep analysis of such electorate, no clear visions what after and so on. But this is just my personal point of view and do not try to generalise, nor to present as a fact. But I guess it is just cool to be an “EDUCATED” “Democrat”.

As for Radovan if he was corrupt there are the special courts that deal with the criminal deeds of that kind of nature not any court for war crimes. Furthermore, it is purely natural that he found a girlfriend but finding a girlfriend does not mean distancing itself from former life. There are many factors that speak in that favour. The psychology and the psyche are totally separated from the physiology. Finding a girlfriend is just normal respond to physiology and its needs. He was separated from the wife for so many years but it does not mean necessarily that he forgot his wife or previous life.

It is also normal that he adopted new personality and begun to live with it. He lived new life but be sure he never forgot who he really was and still is. The better you adopt new personality the better chances for survival. I am sure he had no that much difficulty with that since he is psychiatrist and he knew very well how important is to stay cool in risky situations in order not to reveal for who you really are. He is exactly the same person, except that he maybe did acquired new habits by the time but the personality cannot be changed just like that.

Yes I think this is right and actually Radovan is quite charismatic in his own way. The kind of guy you want to like.

However, he was corrupt. Anybody who was in Republika Srpska will tell you the way he plundered what he could get his hands on and the how far his criminal networks spread. This was a criticism Biljana Plavsic leveled at him too.

Its also interesting to read that he found himself a girlfriend whilst in Belgrade, rather forgetting his former life. In fact I bet he completely did a separation of his former and current lives. I can even believe that he was no longer the same person.

Nevertheless, one has to answer for crimes one is accused of. He deserves to go on trial. Its a pity that it will be the Hague, but seeing as the Serbian government figures such as Kostunica never worked on pressuring the tribunal into letting Serbia try accused war criminals at home, it will have to do.

Personally I don't think that Kostunica would have the guts to put any supposed war heroes on trial. He likes to pander to the uneducated mass too much.
