BELGRADE The Serbian parliament has finished a debate on changes to a set of tax laws on Friday evening after a day-long, heated discussion. The opposition accused the ruling coalition of burdening citizens with new taxes while the government representatives denied the allegations. MPs wrap up debate on tax laws The MPs discussed changes to property tax, tax on legal entities’ profit, law on tax procedure and tax administration, mandatory social security payments, excise taxes and income tax. They also debate four international agreements. Democratic Party (DS) MP Srdjan Milivojevic accused the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) of being responsible for bad draft tax laws. The DS also accused the government of trying to rob the citizens and Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) warned that the government did not do anything to get the country out of the crisis. The Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS) also said that the situation in public finances was disastrous and requested that the bills be withdrawn. The ruling coalition MPs noted that budget solvency in the next six months had been secured and that the country would not go bankrupt, adding however that there was a problem with reduced revenues from taxes, expansion of grey market and overdue payments. The MPs will continue the session on Monday and they will discuss amendments to tax laws. (Tanjug, file) Beta
