NATO airstrikes pounded an area of former Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi’s hometown of Sirte on Wednesday. They came as forces from the interim leadership launched their own assault from outside the city. NATO agrees to extend Libya campaign NATO, which has agreed to extend its air and sea campaign by three months, said its latest strikes hit military targets belonging to Gaddafi loyalists. In Tripoli, the home of one of Gaddafi’s military aides stood burnt out and bullet-ridden. Among the items found scattered in the property were a crumpled poster of the deposed leader and Moussa’s discarded identity card. Forces attacked the compound on Tuesday night. Meanwhile, in New York, a new Libyan flag has marked a fresh beginning at the UN headquarters.
