A daily wants to know why there's been no probe into Tomislav Nikolic’s claims of tycoons funding political parties. Following his statement that Serbia’s biggest tycoons, Milan Beko and Miroslav Miskovic, had financed the Serb Radical Party’s (SRS) election campaign, it is obvious that neither the public prosecutor nor the Republic Electoral Commission (RIK) have been doing their jobs properly, Blic writes. “Why no probe into Nikolic funding claims?” The public prosecutor should have launched an investigation because, under the law, the crime in question carries a prison term of up to five years. Meanwhile, RIK failed to conduct a thorough check on reports submitted by the political parties after the elections, which is one of the Commission’s legal obligations. The Prosecution’s silence is especially strange given that it is no secret that Nikolic signed a report on the SRS’s financing for the May general elections. The report states that the party had no outside donors. However, on Sunday, Nikolic admitted that the party had been financially supported by Miskovic and Beko. The fact that there is no mention of this in the party report implies that falsification of official documentation has taken place, a crime carrying a sentence of up to five years imprisonment. The Law on the Financing of Political Parties stipulates that RIK has an obligation to check reports submitted by the political parties within 90 days of their submission.
