THE HAGUE The Hague Tribunal Prosecution will do everything in its power to make sure a review of a case of Croat generals Ante Gotovina and Mladen Markac is done. Hague Tribunal Chief Prosecutor Serge Brammertz said this to Serbian Justice Minister Nikola Selakovic on Thursday. Review of Croat generals case considered, Brammertz says In mid-November, the Hague Tribunal acquitted Gotovina and Markac in the appeal proceedings. They were originally sentenced to 24 and 18 years in prison for crimes against Serbs during and after the Croatian military-police Operation Storm in 1995. "During the meeting with Brammertz, we received assurances that the prosecution will try, within its possibilities and competences, to secure conditions for a review of that case, Selakovic told Tanjug after the one-hour meeting with Brammertz at the Hague Tribunal. Selakovic told Brammertz about the general feeling of dissatisfaction in Serbia, not only because of the acquittal of the Croat generals, but also because of other cases, such as the case of former commander of the so-called Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) Ramush Haradinaj, who was cleared of all charges for crimes committed against civilians in Kosovo in 1998. Earlier today, Selakovic conferred with Hague Tribunal President Theodor Meron and Secretary John Hawking. The Hague Tribunal officials made no statements for the media. Later this afternoon, Selakovic will meet with International Court of Justice (ICJ) President Song Sang-Hyun, Prosecutor Fatou Bensouda and Secretary Silvana Arbia. The Serbian minister will on Friday visit Serbian citizens in the Hague Tribunal detention unit in Scheveningen who are being tried for war crimes committed in the territory of former Yugoslavia. He should visit Ratko Mladic, Dragoljub Ojdanic, Radovan Djordjevic, Radovan Karadzic, Zdravko Tolimir, Vinko Pandurevic, Vlastimir Djordjevic, Nikola Sainovic, Sreten Lukic, Nebojsa Pavkovica, Vladimir Lazarevic and Franko Simatovic. However, a visit to Serb Radical Party (SRS) leader Vojislav Seselj is not planned.
