The UN Security Council met on Thursday in New York for consultations about the situation in Kosovo, but Serbia's FM Vuk Jeremic was not allowed to attend. Three permanent council members objected to his presence by reaching for their veto powers, said reports. UN Security Council meets without Serb FM The Serbian delegation however distrubuted its position on the issue to all 15 council members as a public document. This was confirmed by Jeremic, who met with UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon during the day. The minister said Serbia will continue with diplomatic activities, and noted that "obviously it was necessary to hide the truth about events in Kosovo from the international public". "Who ordered the deployment of ethnic Albanian paramilitary units, who knew about it, who encouraged such moves, why EULEX left the north of the province and whether unilateral actions are permitted - those are the questions to be asked, and were not allowed to be asked," said he. The Security Council was to hear the report of the Department for Peacekeeping during the closed consultations, after a debate on other issues. On July 26, Serbia demanded that the council hold an urgent session about the situation in northern Kosovo, after Kosovo Albanian authorities in Pristina on Monday sent police units to the Serb north to take over administrative line checkpoints there, causing the security situation to deteriorate.
