U.S. Assistant Secretary of State Philip Gordon met on Wednesday in Belgrade with Serbia's Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremic. They discussed relations between the two countries, the situation in the region and continuation of cooperation in the areas of economy, culture and sports. U.S. assistant secretary of state visits Belgrade Jeremic informed the U.S. official about Serbia's request for conducting an international criminal investigation regarding Council of Europe Rapporteur Dick Marty's allegations about human organ trafficking in Kosovo. He expressed hope that a solution would be found that would enable the proceedings to be carried out under the UN Security Council mandate, the Serbian Foreign Ministry released. Gordon started his tour of the Balkans in Bosnia-Herzegovina and will also visit Pristina, and then Croatia by June 17. In Sarajevo, the high-level American official spoke at a conference entitled "The Western Balkans: Progress, Stagnation or Regression?", and met with High Representative for Bosnia-Herzegovina Valentin Inzko and Bosnian officials. During his visit to the Balkans, Gordon will "underscore the support of the United States for all the countries of the Western Balkans as they build prosperous, peaceful, and democratic societies on their way toward their rightful places as full members of the European and Euro-Atlantic community," the State Department said in an earlier statement. Jeremić informed the U.S. official about Serbia's request for conducting an international criminal investigation regarding Council of Europe Rapporteur Dick Marty's allegations about human organ trafficking in Kosovo.
