Democratic Party (DS) leader Boris Tadic spoke at a campaign rally in Cacak yesterday. He told his coalition's supporters that the dignity of citizens is threatened not only by those who wish to "take Kosovo", but also those who would "take their European future". Tadic likens political rivals, independence proponents "We are a nation that deserves respect and we will not let anyone trample on our dignity," Tadic told the gathering. "Just as we will not let those who wish to do so take Kosovo, so we will not let those who, afraid of life, wish to take the future from us and demean our dignity," he continued, in reference to his party's coalition, "For a European Serbia", and their political rivals in the May 11 elections. Tadic said that he will "for this reason defend both Kosovo and Serbia's European future", when he speaks at the UN Security Council session Monday, called to discuss two reports on the situation in the province. "Those who are today against Europe hope that there will be an insurmountable obstacle between us and EU membership, they hope that no one will be able to achieve our great goal, they are afraid to leave their rooms, they are afraid to leave the country, to compete with others – they are afraid of life," Tanjug quoted Tadic as saying. He also expressed his hope the coalition he is heading will beat "both the Serb Radical Party and all other parties and politicians that join the anti-European policy". "I am especially glad that we will beat them all, including those who change their identity, trample on their own manifestos, ideals and words they were saying not only in the last decade, but several weeks and months ago," he told the rally in the central Serbian town, the stronghold of bitter rivals New Serbia. Tadic continued that Serbia "owes its offspring the signing of the Stabilization and Association Agreement" and joining the EU, because "only in this way can we guarantee a better life and a stable future for the citizens". Deputy DS president Dragan Sutanovac, G17 Plus and Serbian Renewal Movement (SPO) leaders Mladjan Dinkic and Vuk Draskovic also spoke at the rally. Boris Tadic speaks at the Cacak rally (Tanjug)
