BELGRADE Ahead of the final negotiations on the forming of the government, leaders of the future ruling parties are trying to secure the West’s support. Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) acting leader Aleksandar Vucic has just wrapped up his visit to Washington, while Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) leader Ivica Dacic recently visited Berlin. Socialists, Progressives in pursuit of West’s support Analysts agree that both destinations were well-chosen because those are countries that are most interested in developments in Serbia and especially in Kosovo. However, both Vucic and Dacic stressed that foreign powers would not take part in the forming of the new government. However, foreign support, especially from the West, is crucial for the government’s survival. This is why so much attention is devoted to the meetings with foreign officials. SNS officials said they wanted to secure the support for the new government, adding that they would not only look for it in the U.S. Dacic tried to convince German officials this week in Berlin that he was ready to improve communication with Pristina but without bringing Serbia to a position to recognize Kosovo’s independence.
