Slovenian government and PM Borut Pahor will intercede on Serbia’s behalf in the countries that are unsure about granting Serbia the EU candidate status. Daily Blic has learned from Pahor’s office that their intention is to intervene in the states they believe could use additional explanations or arguments in order to make a positive decision regarding Serbia’s EU candidate status. Slovenia to intercede on Serbia’s behalf, daily writes “Aside from European Commission’s positive report on progress, it is necessary to provide consent within the EU member states in order to get the candidate status at the regular December sitting. It is often of the utmost importance to properly present complicated problems and draft solutions that bring peace and wellbeing and are not a mere fulfillment of listed conditions,” the daily has learned from the Slovenian PM’s office. However, Pahor’s support and close ties with the Italian officials, or excellent cooperation between the Serbian authorities and Swedish Foreign Minister Carl Bildt do not come close to support that Germany, as the most influential EU member state, has given Croatia on its EU pathway, the daily writes. Serbia has friends among European politicians but not strategic partnerships, Blic says.
