The U.S. does not expect Serbia to recognize Kosovo's independence and this is not a precondition for good relations between the two countries. The same goes for Washington's support in the European integration of Serbia, said the U.S. ambassador in Belgrade, Mary Warlick. "U.S. not expecting Serbia to recognize" "We wish to see Serbia constructively cooperating with Pristina, the U.S., the EU and other key international factors, and seeking pragmatic solutions which will improve the life of everyone in Kosovo - the Serbs and the Albanians alike," Warlick said in an interview with the June 25 issue of the Vecernje Novosti daily. She added that America was not supporting a partition of Kosovo, nor did it believe that this was a realistic solution. "In our opinion, this would undermine stability in the region. Every new day Serbia spends talking about the reopening of the status negotiations, or about division, is a day lost for Serbia on the road to a European future," Warlick stated. She said that the U.S. and Serbia viewed each other more and more as "irreplaceable partners", adding that relations between the two countries were "positive, strong and productive". "We are cooperating closely on solving a number of challenges, including drug trafficking, joining the EU and strengthening of local authorities. We are also close military partners, and American companies are among the leading foreign investors in Serbia," said the U.S. ambassador.
