The Croatian parliament has accepted the resignation of Prime Minister Ivo Sanader and the decision will take effect with the appointment of his successor. 118 MPs voted in favor of Sanader’s resignation on Thursday night, two officials of the Croatian National Party abstained, while one independent candidate voted against the resignation, the Hina agency reports. Parliament accepts Sanader resignation Croatian President Stjepan Mesic said that he had 30 days to conduct all the necessary consultations before deciding on a new prime minister, stating that the mandate would be given to the person supported by the parliamentary majority. Mesic told Croatian state television that he did not know how long it would take to name a new prime minister as the government law was in the process of being changed, and that it would take time for the law to be adopted and come into effect. He did not want to discuss whether Deputy Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor, whom Sanader has proposed as his successor, was competent to assume the reins of power. In the meantime, Mesic's cabinet has received the parliament’s decision to accept Sander’s resignation, together with 83 signatures gathered in support of Kosor being named the new prime minister.

In the meantime, Mesić's cabinet has received the parliament’s decision to accept Sander’s resignation, together with 83 signatures gathered in support of Kosor being named the new prime minister.
