Iranian Vice President: “Israel was forced to ask for a ceasefire”

Iran’s First Vice President, Mohammad Reza Aref, stated that Israel was “forced to once again ask for a ceasefire” following Iran’s latest strikes. According to him, the attacks demonstrated a new level of Tehran’s deterrence capability, Al Jazeera reported.

“Operation Nasr demonstrated a new level of deterrence by a powerful Iran,” Aref wrote in a post on X.

He also stressed that Iran does not seek war, but will not hesitate to defend its territory and values.

Iranian Minister: “Both we and Lebanon have a common enemy”

In a post on X, Iran’s Minister of Culture, Seyyed Abbas Salehi, stated:

“Neither is Iran fighting for Lebanon, nor is Lebanon fighting for Iran. Both countries have a common treacherous enemy,” he said.

Salehi went on to argue that “joint action” under such circumstances is “a key defense strategy, not merely an act of humanitarian solidarity.”

“Let us not misrepresent this situation,” he added.

The situation in Lebanon remains one of the key issues in negotiations between Iran and the United States. Tehran insists that any ceasefire agreement must also include Lebanon, despite Israel’s position that its objective is to eliminate the Iranian-backed militia Hezbollah, particularly in the southern part of the country.

“After every Hezbollah attack, the Israeli military will strike Beirut”

Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said today that the military will continue to operate against the militant group Hezbollah in Lebanon and will strike Beirut if the group attacks communities in northern Israel.

“The suburbs of Beirut will be treated the same as the northern communities. Every attack on northern communities will lead to attacks on the suburbs of Beirut. The Israel Defense Forces will continue to operate in Lebanon against the Hezbollah terrorist organization,” Katz said, according to The Times of Israel.

Katz added that Israel “categorically rejects Iran’s threats” to attack Israel if the Israeli military carries out further strikes against Hezbollah targets.

“Any Iranian attempt to link Lebanon and Iran, and to attack Israel, will be met with great force, as happened yesterday,” the Israeli minister said.

Iran and Israel exchanged aerial strikes overnight following Israeli attacks in Lebanon, which Iran said violated the ceasefire reached with the United States on April 8. According to Tehran, that agreement also included a ceasefire in Lebanon.
