The Finnish parliament voted for the country's entry into NATO.

188 out of 200 members of parliament voted in favor of joining the Alliance.

With this, Helsinki ended the decades-long policy of neutrality during which Finland had friendly political and economic relations with both the Western and Eastern blocs during the Cold War.
