RS to hold referendum after Constitutional Court decision

President Milorad Dodik and officials from the Serb entity in Bosnia (RS) met in Banja Luka late on Sunday and agreed that citizens will be asked to decide whether they support the court's decision and whether January 9 should continue to be celebrated as RS Day.

Speaking at a news conference after the meeting, Dodik said the participants were united on how to act in the wake of the court's decision. Thus the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia-Herzegovina will be within 120 days asked to pass a new law on the Constitutional Court of Bosnia-Herzegovina that would "expel foreign judges from this institution."

"We have agreed unanimously to reject the decision of the Constitutional Court of Bosnia-Herzegovina and to adhere to the Declaration brought by the RS National Assembly," the entity's public broadcaster RTRS reported Dodik as saying.

The RS will also propose a new law on the Constitutional Court. The meeting was attended and the conclusions supported by leaders of SDS, SP, DNS, PDP, and NDP parties Mladen Bosic, Petar Djokic, Marko Pavic, Branislav Borenovic, and Dragan Cavic.

Bosnia's Constitutional Court decision last week came after Bosniak (Muslim) member of the country's presidency and leader of the SDA party Bakir Izetbegovic filed an appeal asking the RS Law on Holidays to be declared unconstitutional, and for the RS Day holiday to be abolished.

During the proceedings, Izetbegovic withdrew the latter demand, but maintained that the marking of January 9 as RS Day should be declared unconstitutional.

The court ruled that January 9 cannot be marked as RS Day as it was discriminatory toward those RS citizens who are not of Serb ethnicity and Orthodox Christian faith.

Ofanziva ruskih snaga na harkovskom pravcu pokazala se toliko brzom i snažnom da im oskudne odbrambene strukture Ukrajine nisu postale prepreka, a osiromašeni redovi ukrajinskih oružanih snaga nisu bili spremni da brane svoje položaje, piše Njujork tajms.
