PM "expects U.S. assistance" on Kosovo issue

BELGRADE Serbian Prime Minister Ivica Dacic received in Belgrade on Thursday the newly appointed U.S. ambassador to Serbia, Michael Kirby. A statement issued by the government after the meeting said that Dacic stressed that it was in the country's interest to establish good partnership relations with the United States. PM "expects U.S. assistance" on Kosovo issue The U.S. diplomat was quoted as saying that an important task ahead lay in creating a favorable climate for American investments in Serbia. "The government of Serbia is in favor of solving the problems in Kosovo and Metohija in a peaceful manner and through dialogue, and expects the assistance of the U.S. in order to reach a just and sustainable solution, while respecting the legitimate interests of both Serbs and (ethnic) Albanians," Dacic noted, according to the statement. Dacic and Kirby also appraised that the cooperation between the two countries in combating organized crime was yielding good results. Kirby on Wednesday presented his credentials to Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic. Vucic also underlined that Serbia will create favorable climate for new investments. The Serbian deputy prime minister confirmed Serbia's readiness to continue the dialogue with Pristina, and fulfill the obligations undertaken by the previous government. The two officials concluded that the cooperation in the military sphere is very good, pointing to the role of the Ohio National Guard, which has offered great support to the defense system reform, the Ministry of Defence stated in a release.
