"Integrated management is border recognition"

Kosovo Albanian PM Hashim Thaci has stated that integrated border management will mean that the Serbian authorities recognize "Kosovo borders and institutions". "It is ridiculous to mix integrated border management and talks on borders. The very fact that Serbia accepts the concept discussed by Kosovo, the EU and U.S., this European concept not only represents a recognition of borders, but also, I can freely say, a recognition of institutions of the Republic of Kosovo by Serbia," says Thaci. "Integrated management is border recognition" Speaking during a meeting of his government in Pristina, he requested from "institutional leaders" to "under no circumstances mix topics related to borders, because border management is the same model applied in Europe, the model which should be the same with Albania, Macedonia, Montenegro and Serbia". At the government session, leader of the Pristina team in the talks with Belgrade Edita Tahiri announced that the issue of border management will be one of the topics in the dialogue which is expected to take place very soon. She added that regional cooperation, telecom and energy will also be discussed on the occasion. Tahiri said that, unlike the agreements reached so far, the agreement on integrated border management will require the signature of both sides, as well as the EU. "In that framework, we will continue providing support, but we will also request guarantees that Kosovo-Serbia cooperation agreements be signed by both countries. Unlike the previous time, th agreement will also be signed by the EU. The EU had earlier not signed agreements because they were bilateral and there was no need for that. In this case, due to the specificity of neighborly relations with Serbia, we requested guarantees from the EU in the form of its signature," she asserted. As for the new beginning of the dialogue, Tahiri said there were encouraging signals from EU facilitator Robert Cooper, adding that the continuation of the dialogue should be simultaneous with the implementation of the already reached agreements.
