Parade organizers "should provide equipment for police"

Serbia’s IM Ivica Dacic says he has asked Pride Parade organizers and foreign institutions that support them to help buy new equipment for police officers. He pointed out that police would react if attacked during the gay Pride Parade. Parade organizers "should provide equipment for police" The minister said that police would be able to adequately perform their duties and protect the participants, citizens and the city property after they received the necessary equipment. The Independent Police Union warned on Wednesday that police did not have adequate equipment for 5,000 police officers that should provide safety at the parade, stressing that there was enough equipment only for 2,300. Dacic explained that not all 5,000 police officers would be in direct contact with the Pride Parade participants or anti-gay protesters. He did not want to comment on a possibility that police officers would refuse to provide safety at the Pride Parade, but added that he expected all police officers to come to work on Sunday.
