Deputy PM for European Integration Bozidar Djelic told B92 that dual excise taxes on imported fuel and Oil Industry of Serbia (NIS) fuel would be revoked. Dual excise taxes on fuel, which violated the Stabilization and Association Agreement (SAA) with the EU, will be repealed. Deputy PM: Dual excise taxes to be repealed “This basically means that we are going back to the previous system. They have acknowledged it. They said that they would give us an official response in a few days, but if the system was acceptable last year there is no reason to be unacceptable this year,” the deputy PM stressed. “After their memo, the Finance Ministry will come out with specific numbers and this means that there will be no difference between the domestic and foreign bidders,” he said. Djelic said that Serbia’s recent decision to ban wheat export for three months would not create a new problem with Brussels. “The approach was different there. I discretely sent a memo a few weeks ago to the EU that were discussing such measures and they replied just as discretely that they understood the situation in the market and that they would not consider it a violation of the SAA. When it was notified in the EU it was also notified in the CEFTA countries, so the model regarding wheat is what we need to do in the future,” the deputy PM concluded. Bozidar Djelic (Tanjug)
