Controversial Radical MP joins Progressives

Newly elected MP of the Serb Radical Party (SRS) Goran Cvetanović has returned his mandate, to join the Serb Progressive Party (SNS).

Newly elected MP of the Serb Radical Party (SRS) Goran Cvetanovic has returned his mandate, to join the Serb Progressive Party (SNS). SNS is an offshoot of SRS, which broke off last fall. Both parties a part of the opposition in the current parliament. Controversial Radical MP joins Progressives Cvetanovic told reporters that he was joining SNS only a day after he was given his seat by SRS because it was "the only party that could defeat the ruling coalition and bring changes to Serbia". When asked why he accepted the SRS mandate, he said that the replacement of two SRS MPs had been arranged nine months ago and that he had signed the papers to become a MP three months ago. He stated that he "realized in the meantime" that SNS was the only party that could make changes in Serbia. Cvetanovic previously made an appearance in the media when G17 Plus official and former cabinet minister Ivana Dulic-Markovic sued him for referring to herself, and her family members as Ustashas (members of Croatia's WW2 puppet Nazi regime). In February 2008, Cvetanovic, a former mayor of Leskovac, was found guilty of slander and ordered to pay a money fine.
