Opposition Serb Progressive Party (SNS) President Tomislav Nikolic said on Sunday in Belgrade that the party's goal is to force early elections. The gathering of the SNS – an offshoot of the Serb Radicals (SRS) – was held under the motto, "the future starts now", to mark five months since the party was founded, and as part of the campaign for the local elections to be held in two Belgrade municipalities. Nikolic: We'll ask for new elections "The Democratic Party rule, and that of its satellites, is no good. We must beat Boris Tadic and his yes-men in the best possible way – at the polls," he told a packed Sava Centar conference hall. The condition that the SNS will put before anyone with whom it talks cooperation will be to keep Kosovo and Metohija as part of Serbia, Nikolic said. "After that, Serbia will be the best member of the UN, EU, and a union that Russia is likely to establish," he was quoted as saying. Once the party gains power in the country, he said, it will have no mercy dealing with perpetrators of multiple criminal acts and those who set the criminals free, enabling them to repeat their offenses, "especially the drug dealers that are threatening the future and health of the Serb youth". Nikolic's deputy, Aleksandar Vucic, said that the gathering today is the start of a campaign that will seek to force early elections in the country. He said these elections are expected in September or October and that the latest polls show that "only the SNS is gaining, while all other parties are losing". Vucic said that "no human life is worth the interior minister's chair", and called on Ivica Dacic to resign over incidents where citizens died during police interventions. The gathering also heard that the party managed to sign up 80,000 new members in the space of several months. War crimes suspect Radovan Karadzic's brother Luka was seen attending the conference, among other public and party figures. Several members of the Serb People's Movement 1389 were also present. They carried banners reading, "Next year in Prizren", and chanted, "Kosovo is the heart of Serbia". Vucic, Nikolic attend the gathering today (Tanjug)
