Parliament has resumed its debate on amendments to the draft law on confiscation of assets acquired through criminal enterprise. The law envisages the creation of a special organ to administer seized assets. MPs began the debate on the draft law yesterday. Parliament debating criminal assets seizure bill The draft law envisages the formation of a special unit under the aegis of MUP that would work together with the state prosecutor on uncovering assets acquired through criminal activity, as well a procedure for the temporary or permanent confiscation of assets. The opposition has submitted 25 amendments to the draft, but the government accepted only one. The next item on the agenda is a debate on amendments to the draft law on legal entities’ accountability for criminal acts. Meanwhile, the Forward Serbia MP club wants parliament to call on the government to submit a report on the steps taken against countries that have recognized Kosovo independence and those who plan to do so. In its motion, Forward Serbia states that the government has a special responsibility to cite the reasons it was guided by when taking various measures against countries that have recognized Kosovo’s independence. The government is expected to explain why it has applied certain measures against some countries that it has not taken against others, and on what criteria the government based its decision to declare the ambassadors of Montenegro and Macedonia persona non grata, while doing nothing against representatives of other countries, Forward Serbia states.
