Kosovo President Fatmir Sejdiu says the conflict in Georgia won't slow the recognition of Kosovo’s independence. He said that although the situation in South Ossetia would not slow down the process, there was a possibility that the conflict could lead to certain countries taking longer to consider their decision to recognize Kosovo. "Georgia conflict won’t slow Kosovo recognition" “Maybe some countries will take longer to look at their approach…but we will continue to develop our activities, and we will have significant cooperation with those who support Kosovo,” Sejdiu said at the Media Center in Caglavica, according to Radio KiM. He said that there could not be any parallels drawn between Kosovo and the South Ossetian crisis, because Kosovo was “a special case that received international support because of its qualities.” “Kosovo is a special case with its own historical, legal, political and constitutional qualities, and cannot be compared to the conflict in South Ossetia,” Sejdiu underlined. “There should absolutely be no comparisons between Kosovo and other regions…That is best set out in the comprehensive Martti Ahtisaari Plan, and Kosovo received international support because of these very qualities,” said the Kosovo president. He was visiting the Media Center in Caglavica today with Local Self-Government Minister Sadri Ferati. The reason for the visit was aid from the Local Self-Government Ministry and the British embassy for the media center, which received a donation of equipment for enabling simultaneous interpretation. Andy Sparks, whom Britain appointed as its ambassador to the province, did not attend the conference, even though it was announced earlier that he would attend.
