UNMIK Chief Lamberto Zannier said in New York yesterday that the approval of the UN plan would enable faster reconfiguration of the UN administration in Kosovo. “The report that was supported by the Security Council enables us to adjust to the new reality in the province, and to cooperation with EULEX,” Zannier told reporters. He said that certain elements of the report could not be imposed, adding that they must be implemented with dialogue through cooperation and open consultations with the sides that the document pertains to. Kosovo’s foreign policy chief Skender Hyseni said that Pristina continued to reject the UN six-point plan and would not accept or tolerate any actions that compromised Kosovo’s sovereignty or territorial integrity. “We will cooperate closely with the international forces in a multi-ethnic and democratic Kosovo,” he said. Hyseni said that Pristina was ready to cooperate in line with the highest international standards. “We and those that support us say that Kosovo independence is a process that cannot be reversed. We hope that the decisions of the International Court of Justice will not stop nations from across the globe recognizing Kosovo’s independence and its progress,” he said in reference to the UN General Assembly's decision in October to give Serbia the go-ahead to ask the ICJ for its advisory opinion on the legality of Kosovo’s unilateral independence declaration. Hyseni said that the EU mission had been created to implement the plan of special UN envoy Martti Ahtisaari for internationally-supervised independence, in particular the part of the plan regarding minority rights.
