The Serbs claim that the Kosovo police recently seized documents from several other Serbs who live in Suvi Do. Kosovska Mitrovica Deputy Mayor Aleksandar Spiric has condemned “ill-treatment and frequent harassment” of the Suvi Do residents and warned that “seemingly small incidents can turn into a larger conflict”. “Bearing in mind that the negotiations are underway between Belgrade and Pristina in Brussels, we believe the actions of the Regional Kosovo police are not good at the moment and that seizure of documents just because they were issued by the Republic of Serbia causes additional anxiety and concern among these people,” Spiric told Beta new agency. “We advocate daily control of smuggling and other forms of crime but what residents of the ethnically-mixed village have been going through recently deserves to be condemned,” he said and requested on behalf of the local self-government that “frequent problems be solved in coordination with the KPS’ northern police station and Suvi Do representatives”.
