Tadić, Koštunica reach cabinet deal

B92 has learnt that leader of the Democrats Boris Tadić will become president of the National Security Council empowered to coordinate the work of all security agencies.

Dragan Jočić of Koštunica’s Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS) will remain the interior minister, as the DS and the DSS will have joint administration of the state security agency (BIA).

Two party leaders were later joined by G17 Plus president Mlađan Dinkić, and they finalized the new cabinet deal.

They also agreed to elect a new parliament speaker in lieu of Tomislav Nikolić.

Nikolić: I would not object to stepping down

Only three days following his appointment as Parliament speaker with the backing of Koštunica’s DSS, Tomislav Nikolić is very likely to be replaced

Nikolić has told B92 he would resign only if majority of 126 lawmakers requested so.

“Koštunica has paid me a visit this morning and informed me that the agreement on a new government has been reached. He also said it would be good that I resign,” Nikolić said.

Nikolić told Koštunica he would schedule the next parliament session for tomorrow provided he was officially asked to do so today.

“If 126 lawmakers signed the request for my resignation, I have no intention to remain the parliament speaker, nor open any discussion on the subject. I would address the assembly and say that I have received such a request and formally step down from office,” Nikolić said.
