Romania will not recognize Kosovo until the Belgrade government and Pristina authorities resolve all open issues, Romanian President Traian Basescu stated. Romania does not recognized Kosovo and its stand regarding this matter remains unchanged, based on the same logic as in the case of the Middle East, Basescu said. Kosovo recognition "when all open issues have been resolved" According to a Agerpress news agency report, Basescu told ambassadors at the annual meeting of Romanian diplomats that his country will not recognize Kosovo until Belgrade and Pristina reach an agreement, and added that there is no reason for Romania to implement double standards as regards the conflicts in the Balkans and in the Middle East. "Our intention is to ask EU member states to rebalance presence in Kosovo and rethink participation in EULEX Kosovo. Romania participated in EULEX Kosovo provided that its presence is not regarded as support for institutional reconstruction in Kosovo," he was quoted as saying. In May, Basescu refused to attend the meeting of heads of states of Central and South-East Europe in Warsaw. As Russia's news agency ITAR-TASS recalled, the reason for Basescu's absence from the summit was the fact that Kosovo President Atifiete Jahjaga participated in the meeting.
