Interior Minister Ivica Dacic says that Serbia could soon have police attachés in embassies and consulates throughout the world. Dacic said after meeting with accredited foreign police attachés in Belgrade that talks with the Foreign Ministry were under way to that end. He said the Interior Ministry (MUP) would first send representatives to countries where active and speedy police cooperation was needed. Serbia to have police attachés In Belgrade, at the moment, there are 28 police attachés from 24 countries, and, according to Dacic, MUP exchanged more than 1,500 various applications, reports and searches with them last year. He said that MUP planned to initiate the signing of agreements on police cooperation with many countries and that regular meetings would be held with police attachés in Belgrade, as that was the only way to successfully combat crime. According to Dacic, today’s meeting is a clear message to the Serbian public and criminal groups that those who break the law will not have anywhere to hide, as there is good cooperation between police, and operative and criminal information is regularly exchanged. Jirzi Trojcek, a communications officer for the Czech police, stated that all police attachés had commended Serbia’s initiative to hold meetings and exchange experience, offering them the opportunity to express their opinion and evaluate cooperation. He stated that, since Serbia planned to have its own police attachés in the world, communications officers had conveyed experiences in that field from their own countries, and urged their deployment to begin as soon as possible. According to Trojcek, that is one of the most effective instruments for success in combating international crime, which knows no borders.
