An EU border management agency and Serbia's Internal Affairs Ministry (MUP) singed a working arrangement on Tuesday in Belgrade. First Deputy Premier and Interior Minister Ivica Dacic said that the arrangement with the European Agency for the Management of Operational Cooperation at the External Borders (FRONTEX) is a step forward in Serbia's visa liberalization and further European integrations. MUP, FRONTEX in cooperation After signing of the document, which aims to establish operational cooperation between MUP and this agency, Dacic told reporters that one of the goals will be to prevent illegal migrations and all forms of cross-border crime. The working arrangement was signed by Dacic and FRONTEX Executive Director Ilkka Laitimen. Dacic stated that the modernization of the border police is underway, noting that the formation of a single information and visa system is one of the tasks of the Serbian police. The arrangement also aims to establish cooperation in various spheres, ranging from the exchange of information to joint operative actions, he stated. According to the minister, owing to this document, Serbia has become a part of the EU's joint security policy. Dacic also said that during the preparations for signing the arrangement, the members of the Serbian police have shown a high level of expertise, adding that "this is a good start and that now is the time to start working". Laitimen said that, after the signing of the document that is already being applied, the police forces of all EU countries and in Serbia have crossed "to the same side of the border" in opposing all forms of crime. He underscored that the system of information exchange, which is applied by the EU states, will be accessible to the Serbian police. He added that "the Serbian colleagues will be included in the network of the exchange of information". According to Laitimen, the working arrangement also includes the conducting of joint operations at airports based joint risk assessments.
