Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremic today described Croatia as "the strongest supporter of Kosovo's independence". Jeremic also mentioned Zagreb's "support for implementation of Martti Ahtisaari's rejected plan". Jeremic hits back at Mesic comment The foreign minister was reacting to a statement yesterday by Croatian President Stjepan Mesic that the relations between the two countries are "stagnating" and that the mood in the region "resembles that from the early 1990s". Jeremic said that he agreed that bilateral relations were not as they should be, but that Croatia bore the responsibility for this. "Croatia filed genocide charges against Serbia and this application is reviewed at the International Court of Justice. The way in which the Serb property and capital in Croatia are treated is inappropriate," Jeremic said told B92 TV. Jeremic added that the bilateral ties suffered mostly because of Croatia's recognition of Kosovo Albanians' unilateral declaration of independence, and because Croatia was the "most ardent supporter" of this proclamation, and implementation of the Ahtisaari plan at international fora, "including the UN Security Council". "The attitude of the Croatian state is the reason why our relations are as they are today," Jeremic said, and added that Serbia returned its ambassador to Zagreb, "showing good will towards in this way". However, according to him, "Croatia acts towards Serbia in a way which is completely inappropriate for the achievement of good neighborly relations in the region".
