The Serbian ambassador to the U.S. Friday commented on the current state of relations between the two countries. Ivan Vujacic evaluated that they could suffer in the coming period, due to the opposed Belgrade and Washington stands on Kosovo. Serbian, U.S. relations could cool—ambassador "That Kosovo is a major issue in Serbia. The position of our government and president is known, and the resolution that entails certain consequences on relations with countries that bilaterally recognize a unilateral declaration of Kosovo was adopted," Vujacic said in an interview with the Voice of America. "During 2008, a potential resolution of the status of Kosovo will evidently take place, at least as far as the United States of America is concerned, and some other countries." "Our positions are considerably different and we will see how that will reflect on the relations between the two countries," the ambassador said in Washington. Summing up this year, Vujacic said that, other than Kosovo, a series of successes, primarily in the military and economic areas, were achieved in the relations with the United States. Belgrade and Washington this year mark 125 years since formal ties between the two countries were established.
