While over 200 Croatian companies operate in Serbia, less than ten Serbian are in the Croatian market. This was confirmed by the Croatian Chamber of Commerce representative in Belgrade, Goran Masnec, who said that the handful of Serbian firms in his country mainly operate via Croatian distributors. 200 Croatian companies in Serbian market Masnec however believes this is "not a long-term solution" and that "concrete investment is needed." He went on to say that Serbia is a very important export market for Croatia, at the same time, the third on the list of the largest Croatian investments abroad, with some USD 400mn. Croatian companies are mostly interested in investing in Serbia's food processing industry, trade and non-metal industries. Masinec also revealed that trade between the two countries last year reached some USD 1bn, 40 percent up on 2006. That figure broken down shows that Croatia exported goods worth USD 650mn to Serbia, at the same time realizing imports in the amount of USD 350mn. Masinec added that he hopes this cooperation will further improve, Beta reported. But Serbia is yet to open its Chamber of Commerce office in Croatia.
