Serb family evicted from their home in Kosovska Mitrovica

Danilo Ilic, the owner of the house, told Radio Kontakt plus that he could not even attend that trial because he had not received a single court summons.

Ilic said that he only received a ruling ordering him to leave the house, and that he in 2006 "found out that the ethnic Albanian transferred the house and the estate to his name with the assistance of two witnesses."

Ilic said that he had done everything to prove that the house is his property, but that the trial apparently had to be won by the ethnic Albanian "to make sure that there are no incidents."

The Ilics and their three children were evicted with their belongings on Friday morning amid a strong presence of the Kosovo police in central Kosovska Mitrovica.

Lawyer Miodrag Brkljac said earlier on that Danilo Ilic's case is an example of how Kosovo Serbs have been robbed of their property over the past ten years, and added that nearly a year ago he filed a request for a retrial but that the Basic Court in Mitrovica did not respond to it.

Ilic said that he had also contacted the EU mission in the province, EULEX, "which declared its non-jurisdiction over the case."
