British Ambassador in Belgrade Stephen Wordsworth says that his country wants Serbia to “stand shoulder-to-shoulder” with it as a member of the EU. The British envoy said that Serbia should enjoy all advantages which the membership is offering. “EU is incomplete without Serbia” “We are supporting, monitoring and welcoming with joy each positive step Serbia makes on its way toward the EU,” Wordsworth was quoted as saying during a reception in Belgrade to mark the the birthday of British Queen Elizabeth II. Wordsworth pointed out that Serbia had made big progress last year, with the EU visa regime abolished for the Schengen countries, and Interim Trade Agreement part of the SAA unblocked. He also noted that recently all of the EU members decided to begin the process of the ratification of Serbia’s Stabilization and Association Agreement with the EU. According to him, the new British government remains determined to support the EU integration of the entire region, and that EU membership is something that would “improve the lives of ordinary citizens”. Wordsworth also said this would be his last year as ambassador to Serbia. He stressed that UK wanted to see more cooperation and more British investments in Serbia. Among those who attended the reception were Ministers Ivica Dacic, Dragan Sutanovac and Nebojsa Bradic and other politicians, among others Dragoljub Micunovic and opposition leader Tomislav Nikolic, representatives of NGOs including Sonja Liht, Natasa Kandic, Ivan Vejvoda and Miljenko Dereta.
