Serbs killed in bus bombing in Kosovo remembered

The bus was the first in a convoy of six, escorted by KFOR, transporting displaced Serbs from Kosovo to Gracanica, where they were to visit family graves on All Souls' Day. A mine detonated as the bus was driving over a bridge, killing the driver and 11 passengers, a two year old toddler among them.

The sole suspect was Florim Ejupi, an ethnic Albanian who was in 2008 sentenced to 40 years in prison for multiple murder and attempted murder, to 15 years for terrorism, to 8 years for causing general danger, to five for causing racial and other discrimination, and to 10 years for illegal possession of weapons.

The indictment against Ejupi stated that he is responsible for the murder of Nenad Stojanovic, Dragan Vukotic, Lazar Milkic, Snezana Zdravkovic, Danilo Cokic, Suncica Pejcic, Nebojsa Cokic, Mirjana Dragovic, Milinka Kragovic, Velja Stakic, Slobodan Stojanovic, and Zivana Tokic.

In 2009, Ejupi was set free due to lack of evidence, by a second-degree ruling of the Kosovo Supreme Court.

The same year, the EU mission in Kosovo, EULEX, launched a new investigation. The Livadica case is handled by the office of the special prosecutor for war crimes, but the perpetrators remain unknown to this day. Beta agency is reporting that the only known information is that more than one person was behind the attack.

The Cultural-Educational Community of Kosovo and Metohija organizes memorial gatherings each year to mark the anniversary of the bus bombing.
