The Belgrade Appellate Court quashed Sabac District Court ruling on extradition and extension of detention for Trebinje wartime Mayor Bozidar Vucurevic. “The Appellate Court believes that the War Crimes Chamber of the Belgrade District Court, as the only competent court in this matter, should decide on the appeals submitted by Croatia and Bosnia-Herzegovina,” the court's Spokeswoman Mirjana Piljic said Friday. Vucurevic was arrested on Karakaj border crossing in Mali Zvornik, western Serbia, on April 4, on an arrest warrant issued by Croatia for war crimes committed during the artillery attack on Dubrovnik. A week upon his arrest, Croatia filed a request for his extradition. Bosnia-Herzegovina Justice Ministry also filed a request for his extradition because its competent bodies are also conducting an investigation into his involvement in war crimes committed in Trebinje. Vucurevic holds Bosnia-Herzegovina’s citizenship and in 2008 he filed for Serbian citizenship at the Serbian Consulate in Bosnia-Herzegovina but his request was denied. He could be extradited to Croatia or Bosnia-Herzegovina in keeping with the provisions of the European Extradition Convention.
