Doctor dies of malaria contracted during UN mission

A doctor from Serbia's military clinic VMA has died from a grave form of malaria she contracted as a member of a UN mission in Central African Republic.

Doctor dies of malaria contracted during UN mission

She received treatment for the gravest form of malaria and complications caused by the disease.

"The Ministry of Defense and the Serbian Army mourn the loss of Dr. Jovanovic, who was decorated for her UN service along with other colleagues. Defense Minister Bratislav Gasic and chief of the Serbian Army General Staff Gen. Ljubisa Dikovic have offered their condolences to the Jovanovic family," a statement said.

Olivera Jovanovic has been an MoD employee since 1995, and specialized in radiology. She worked in VMA's Radiology Institute.

Jovanovic served in the MINUSCA mission in Central African Republic during the first rotation of the mission, it has been announced.
