NOVI SAD Agriculture Minister Goran Knezevic has said that Serbia "needs to change the structure of its agricultural exports." Serbia is sixth in the world in the export of corn, but it needs to change its export structure and start exporting goods which bring the highest profit, Knezevic said over the weekend during the opening of the International Agricultural Fair in Novi Sad. "Serbia must change structure of agriculture exports" "We need to round off our agricultural production process and produce finished products which are worth the most in the market and which we can sell at the highest price," said the minister. Knezevic said Serbia has things to show and be proud of in the agriculture sector, but also wants to accept innovations brought by its guests from abroad. Croatian Agriculture Minister Tihomir Jakovina said his country is proud to be the partner of this year's 80th International Agricultural Fair in Novi Sad. He said the Novi Sad fair is recognized in the world and Croatian farmers also recognized its significance and presented everything of value that Croatian agriculture can produce. Jakovina recalled that Croatia is set to become a full-fledged EU member in 40 days and expressed hope cooperation with Serbia will only get stronger. Responding to questions from Croatian reporters, Minister Knezevic said Croatia's experiences will be extremely valuable to Serbia on its European path and will help it overcome any problems and harmonize its agricultural regulations faster and more easily. On Saturday, Knezevic and Jakovina took part in the work of a business forum with the theme "Food - what connects us also brings us together." The forum was co-organized by the Serbian and Croatian agriculture ministries, and representatives of the two countries' chambers of commerce and biggest companies discussed problems and experiences. With the support of the Serbian Ministry of Agriculture, the fair once again organized an exhibit of organic food production and a national livestock exhibit, the greatest of its kind in the Balkans, with over 1,500 choice heads of cattle. The fair also includes an exhibit of agricultural machinery, featuring the world's leading manufacturers and innovations presented at the world's best known fairs. The Novi Sad Agricultural Fair is the biggest in Serbia, and according to Eichberg Ag Trade Show Report from 2010, it is one of the top five fairs in Europe and top 10 in the world. (Tanjug) Tanjug
