Families and friends of the kidnapped and killed in Kosovo held a protest in downtown Belgrade on Saturday against the acquittal of Ramush Haradinaj.

BELGRADE Families and friends of the kidnapped and killed in Kosovo held a protest in downtown Belgrade on Saturday against the acquittal of Ramush Haradinaj. The protest dubbed “Silence against Injustice” started symbolically at 12:05 CET and organizers say they wanted to draw the state’s attention to its overdue reactions. Protest against Haradinaj’s acquittal held in Belgrade “This is the last slap in the face and mockery of the Serb victims. We have been pointing to crimes in vain for the last 14 years, offering evidence and witnesses to The Hague and to our organs as well, but nobody showed any interest,” Gordana Djikanovic, a representative of the Association of Kidnapped and Killed in Kosovo, told reporters. She stressed that 3,500 Serbs and other non-Albanians had been killed in Kosovo since 1998. The Hague Tribunal acquitted Haradinaj, a former commander of the so-called Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA), and his associates Idriz Balaj and Lahi Brahimaj of crimes against Serb, Roma and Albanian civilians in an illegal KLA detention camp in the village of Jablanica in 1998. The court determined that the crimes had been committed but that the three indictees were not responsible for them. The judges also said that there was no evidence that Haradinaj knew about the crimes committed in Jablanica. (Tanjug) Tanjug

Protest against Haradinaj’s acquittal held in Belgrade

“This is the last slap in the face and mockery of the Serb victims. We have been pointing to crimes in vain for the last 14 years, offering evidence and witnesses to The Hague and to our organs as well, but nobody showed any interest,” Gordana Đikanović, a representative of the Association of Kidnapped and Killed in Kosovo, told reporters.

She stressed that 3,500 Serbs and other non-Albanians had been killed in Kosovo since 1998.
